I, too, have my lineage through Hezekiah Hoar born July 10, 1608 in Devonshire, England down to John Hoar born July 21, 1765 in Ashford, CT. I am looking for more info on his son, Ralph Hoar b. Dec 10, 1794 in Pomfret, VT, and Ralph's son, Lyman Spaulding Horr born ca 1832 either in Plattsburgh, NY or Marble Rock, IA, but definitely died 1911 in Marble Rock, IA. Mary B. Horr b. 1868 was Lyman's daughter also died in IA. Her son, Ralph Horr Campbell was my grandfather b. 1893 in Marble Rock, IA. The ancient history I have, but the more recent history is rather vague. Can anyone give me any clues? I have hit a dead end.

Thanks, Elaine

My 4th great grandfather is Pardy Hoard whom I believe was born in Ireland around 1814. I've traced him to Geauga County, OH in the Thompson township where he married Roxanna Stearns 1/4/1838. Their son Orange Batesman Hoard (b. 12/1840, Ohio) is my 3rd great grandfather. I am curious to know whether or not anyone has any information on Pardy and where he's from. Also if anyone has gotten further back in the Hoard lineage than him. Right now I'm doing my direct Hoard lineage and then will go from there. E-mailing me would be great!! Thank you in advance.

I have a copy of a Kansas City Star(1903) newspaper clipping(includes photo) of F.A. Hoard and wife (the former Miss Johan Fairbank), celebrating their 50th wedding anniversery. In attendance were his sons, Fletcher F. Hoard, F.T. Hoard, A.C. Hoard and W. R. Hoard.
My grandmother Dorthory Hoard's grandfather was Frank Trevette Hoard, who we beleive was the F.T. Hoard listed in the article. However there is no mention of what all the initials for all the names stand for. Am seeking outside sources.

Yes there a few.
Actually have a copy of a newspaper clipping of Mr. and Mrs. F.A. Hoard golden wedding anniverery announcemnt from Kansas City Star dated 1903.
In attendance were Fletcher F. of Kansas City, W.R. of Dodge Center, F.T. of Howard S.D. and A.C. of Minneapolis.

Suspect that W.R. is william, F.T. is Fletcher Trevette and A.C. is Archibald C.

Got some info from family member this last week that Frank Trevette married Lucy Elnerva Sanford(b. 22 May 1858) on 26 Dec 1881. And that they had 5 kids, three named Axie, Clifford Frank and Willis.

My Grandfather is John Thomas Hoard, his father was John Henry Hoard, his father was Wylie Jackson Hoard, his father was Wylie Hoard, and his father was Micajeh Hoard.

This is all I know except that they all lived in or around Martin Co. North Carolina.

I have been told that my ancestors all go back to two brothers who came over to Virginia from England. I have also heard that there is a book about them called "The Hoards of Virginia," but I havn't been able to find it.

I would appreciate any help. Thanks.

Hi Zack,
The book is called The HORD'S of Virginia. I checked the book for your Micajeh, he was not mentioned. There were two branches of this family that ended up in the Carolina's that I know of. One was Ambrose HORD who married Margaret SHERRILL and lived in North Carolina, the other was James HORD. I hope this helps you. You can find the HORD book at Higginson books on line.

I GOT A LOT OF INFO FROM STATE ARCHIVES AND VERY LITTLE ON HER. GEORGE DIED IN YATES COUNTY NY. MAYBE A CLUE THERE. ALSO THE FAMILIES TRAVELED TOGETHER WITH OTHER FAMILIES. LATE 1700 AND EARLY 1800 FAMILY TRAVELED INTO NY STATE. FIRST IN RENSSELAER COUNTY WITH WAS OWNED BY LAND BARON AND A LAND LEAST WAS USED.GEORGE AND ISSAC HOARD/HORD WERE IN ABOVE COUNTY TOGETHER. THEY TEND TO MARRY BROTHERS WIFE SISTERS. THERE IS A LOT OF CASES OF IT. EARLY 1800 THE HOARDS FANED ACCROSS NY LIKE WILD FIRE.
THE ABOVE COUNTY MAY HELP. I'M SORRY THIS ALL I HAVE. I HAVE A LOT OF BRANCHS THAT STOP. AND THIS IS ONE OF THEM GOOD LUCK.

Hi Carolyn,
I am a student at the Univ. of Texas at Austin and I'm in the beginning stages of researching my family history, specifically its religious history.
My Grandfather's name is John Thomas Hoard and he currently lives in Edgecomb Co. NC. His father was John Henry Hoard, whose father was Wylie Jackson Hoard, his father was Wylie Hoard, and his father was Micajeh Hoard, who was a drummer boy for the Rev. Army.

This is all I know except that all of these Hoards before my Grandfather lived in Martin Co. NC. I don't have any dates, and I am looking for them along with some religious affiliation information. I have heard that they were all mainly Episcopals like the majority Martin Co. I have also heard stories of Wylie Jackson Hoard and his brothers fighting for the Confederacy in the Civil War. I am very interested in all of this and would love any info. you could give me.

Thanks,
Zack Hoard

Dear Keith,
Thanks for offering to help to look up Mary Hoard Cantrell. If you are in Griffin, then you should know Sherif Richard Cantrell. He's my boy's uncle. I know that Mary Hoard's mother was Elsie Thomas Hoard and I believe her husband was Richard Calloway Hoard. At one time the Hoards owned Indian Springs at Jackson, GA. This is when one indian bloodline entered according to Brenda Grant, my boy's aunt. She is half sister to Richard and Johnny Cantrell ( same mother).
This is all the information I have. Looking forward to hearing from you.

See my posting of Hoards in Indiana. I came across a posting on the LaGrange County website today noting that Hezekiah Hoard (family patriarch) of New York had moved to Geauga County, OH, in 1832 before moving on to LaGrange County, IN, in 1835. Hezekiah, his son, also spent time in Geauga County, but sold his farm in 1835 and moved on to Indiana. Hezekiah (patriarch) and his wife Lodema (Babcock) had 10 children and it appears that only 6 are listed on the LaGrange County, IN, 1850 census. I also found a person who has Hoard genealogy he's willing to share. I have e-mailed him and will pass on what I can if it is pertinent. There is also a book published by the Higginson Book Company (they have a website) called Hoar/Hoard/Horr: Record of Descendants of Hezekiah Hoar, Taunton, Mass. I have ordered the book and am waiting for its arrival. Good luck in your search.

I too am researching Hoard's in Indiana. There were a number of them listed on the 1850 census in LaGrange County, Indiana. The family patriarch appears to be Hezekiah Hoard, who was 65 at the time and was born in New York. Sons listed are: Henry (age 26); Burnet (age 28); Benjamin (age 26); Elisha (age 39); and Hezekiah (age 40). My gr-great grandfather was Benjamin D. Hoard who married Elizabeth F. Comstock on 8-1-1847. They moved to Pulaski County, Indiana, and lived there until their deaths. Benjamin died 3-3-1904 and Elizabeth died 2-16-1895. They had one daughter, Mary Adeline, date of birth is uncertain, and she married Thomas Samuel Dimon on 9-25-1892. I am going to Indiana the first week in May to search further. Hope this helps.

Hi Vicki,
I don't have alot of information on Alton, but I hope this helps.

Alton's parents were Charles C. Hoard b. 1862 in WI, and Georgia Davis.

Alton married Ella Cutsforth, and had the following children: Leona and Betty.

Alton's grandparents were Orange Batesman Hoard and Elizabeth Cutsforth. Orange Batesman Hoard was my 2nd great-grandfather.

Do you have any information on other Hoards buried in the New Auburn area? The Hoards that I am tracing lived in New Auburn for a short time before moving to Friendship, Adams County.

After receiving new info I have found that Nancy's middle name is Louvina not Laverner.
Not sure of the spelling of her last name Haze, Hays, Hayes.

Try looking at the descendents of Lewis HOARD-HORD. Your answer is probably there. Good Luck

I don't have any information for you, but a question. Do you know the name of William H. Hoard's mother? Do you know when he was born? We are wondering if he may have been some of our kin.We have lost touch with this branch of the family. The William Hoard we are interested in had a mother named Mary Catherine (nee Logan) Hoard who later married John Hendrix. We would appreciate any information anyone has.

I am searching for Jessie Hoard who married in 1770 to David Louderback. Their son Henry was born in 1785 and eventually the line moved to TN. If youfind out anything about Ambrose--please keep me in mind!
